Portrait Gerd Gockell
Gerd Gockell was born in Darmstadt 1960 and studied at the Braunschweig University of Art from 1981 bis 1987. Many of his films
focus on animation technics and the related single frame treatment, although he is not an animated cartoon director in the classic sense.
Refering to the history of cartoon und experimental film he invents ironic reflections on the mediality of films and their projection.
Besides numerous grants and awards Gerd Gockell has won the main prize of the Oberhausen short film festival. Because of his
special liaison to animated film, the film
fest screens two programmes: an overview over his short films and a second with his long film
MURATTI UND SAROTTI - THE HISTORY OF GERMAN ANIMATED FILM 1920 – 1960.
