Portrait Volker Schreiner

For the fourth year running the Braunschweig International Film Festival is showing works of artists who began their career in Braunschweig.

This year we are looking at the works of Volker Schreiner. Volker Schreiner, born in 1957, studied at the University of Fine Arts in Braunschweig from 1977 till 1983. From 1993 to 1998 he did part-time lecturing in Braunschweig and Karlsruhe and then became a guest professor at universities in Braunschweig and Mainz.

The focus of his work is on assembly. Schreiner investigates new moments of closeness which are produced by the assembling of similar visual elements and gives us the opportunity to look at well-known things anew and thus reflect upon how to see and interpret film images. In this way Schreiner’s work develops its own special poetic form.

As well as winning various prizes, Schreiner has been awarded grants in Paris and Lower Saxony and his works have been shown in numerous international festivals and exhibitions.
