New International Cinema

""O'Horten" by Bent Hamer

For the 22nd year the filmfest Braunschweig invites you to be first to see new international cinema on the wide screen. And increasingly we are becoming the only place to see it, as ever more independent German distributors release directly on DVD.

True to tradition, we offer the most recent films of the great European directors, Ken Loach’s "It's a free world", Julio Medem’s "Caótica Ana", the German première of Baltasar Kormakur’s "White Night Wedding", "The Wackness" with Ben Kingsley and the unusual cartoon anthology "Fear(s) of the dark".

From France, birthplace of cinema, come the Cannes winner of the Palme D’Or, the social drama "The Class", and "Female Agents", a Second World War epic with Sophie Marceau and Moritz Bleibtreu.

Our guests include the Norwegian Bent Hamer, presenting his offbeat "O'Horten", and Kang Li, who, with her leading actress, will be travelling from China for the international première of "Flavour of Girlhood".

You can find items on these and more films on the following pages. The filmfest Braunschweig welcomes you to a discovery of a world of cinema.
