New German Films

"Little Paris" by Miriam Dehne

The recent trend of the younger generation of film-makers towards current, courageous topics continues with films ranging from the political to the personal. This year’s focus shifts to feelings, individual longings and family fortunes. The films include "Der entsorgte Vater", a documentary on the breakdown of parental relations, "Der Rote Punkt" - depicting the search for unknown parents, Anna Maria Mühe and Ulrich Matthes in Christian Schwochow’s "Novemberkind", a daughter’s search for her mother, "About breathing under water" and "Thousand Oceans", both films on a family’s disintegration, and "Little Paris", with its dreams and frustrations (the last three films will also be shown in the framework of the Franco-German Youth Award "Kinema".

In contrast, the filmfest also has the first German showings of the documentary "Trouble - Teatime in Heiligendamm" and the art film "Saila" by Julia Ostertag, formerly of the College of Art in Braunschweig.

The programme "New German Films" is being supported by Gaertner datensysteme.
