Short film music award "Der Leo"

The 22nd film
fest will be presenting the "Leo" this year fort he sixth time. The "Leo", which is awarded
by a jury of four, is a prize for short films where film and music are especially well combined in
a particularly convincing and original way. The 21 contributions for the "Leo" originate from 9
countries are all less than 18 months old and come from all sorts of genres, from animation to experimental
films, from short feature films to documentaries.
The prize money of 2.000 Euro is donated by the Stiftung Braunschweiger Land and is awarded equally to
film director and music composer.

The Jury 2008
Kerstin Ahlrichs
Kerstin Ahlrichs was born in Lower Saxony in 1966. In 1993 she moved to Berlin after finishing her degree
in cultural studies in Hildesheim. She worked in a film equipment rental, as DJ and as a freelancing camera woman.
During her studies at the dffb (German Film and Television Academy) until 2006 she made seven short films as
well as her feature length graduation project "Crossing Fields". Aside from studying, she worked at a Berlin
Open-Air Cinema and organized screenings for the Berlin Film Festival. Right now, she is developing several
filmprojects.
Jörg Gerle
Born in Kassel 1966, he already worked for various film magazines during his studies of media science. Since
1995 Gerle is freelance, writing i.e. for "filmdienst" focusing on film music. He is editor for DVD at
the "Dictionary of International Film". After a short intermezzo at "Fono Forum" (1998-2000) in the field
of film music, "Rheinischer Merkur", Generalanzeiger Bonn and Frankfurter Rundschau are also on his list.
Hansjörg Kohli
Born in 1971, Hansjörg Kohli read film music composition at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, USA,
and at the College of Music and Theatre in Munich. He then worked as a composer and orchestrator for both
TV and cinema. Since 2005, he has been the head of ZDF television’s department for dramaturgical music in
fiction programmes, providing advice on all aspects of the use of music in TV drama. Hansjörg Kohli also teaches
composition for film and TV at the Munic College of Music.
Ulrich Wegenast
Ulrich Wegenast was born in Stuttgart in 1966. He read History and Art History at the University of
Stuttgart, followed by a course in Cultural and Media Management at the Hans-Eisler-College of Music in
Berlin. He has taught at the Baden-Wuerttemberg Film Academy and several other places, and has been a member
of the Goethe Institute’s short film board and of their advisory board for film, TV and radio since 2006. He has
also been serving as a jury member for video, film and arts.
