Science/Fiction
People’s current image of science is strongly influenced by popular myths and ideas conveyed by movies, which often leads to a distorted or incorrect
picture of scientific facts and work. Everyone is familiar with the character of the "mad scientist" and his or her counterpart, the strong
and handsome hero who manages to save the world at the very last moment.
This kind of scenario is clearly unrealistic – but what is actually "real" in today’s world of science? At universities in the US and Great Britain, science
fiction movies are frequently used to help get across, or start discussions of, scientific issues and principles. Picking up this idea, the
film
fest is showing a set of films dealing with science and technology that will be commented by leading scientist from Braunschweig.
The "Science/Fiction" programme is the Festival's contribution to "Braunschweig - Germany’s City of Science 2007".
