New German Films

"Hotel Very Welcome"

The "New German Cinema" is getting tougher and more interested in society. Young directors are particularly close observers, revealing individual characters' lack of direction and purpose. Another focus this year is on documentaries, which tend to show either portraits of individuals (like "Der Weiße mit dem Schwarzbrot", a documentary about former terrorist Christof Wackernagel) or deal with the integration of minority groups (such as "Zigeuner" by Stanislaw Mucha).

Our feature films cover a broad spectrum ranging from family stories to an unconventional travel documentary. They include "Hoffnung" by Stanislaw Mucha, "Neben der Spur" by Braunschweig-born director Detlef Bothe, "Der andere Junge" by Volker Einrauch, "Wortbrot" by Estelle Klawitter & Marcel Saibert, "Wir sagen Du! Schatz" by Marc Meyer, "The Calling Game" by Felix Randau and "Hotel Very Welcome", in our midnight special, "On Evil Grounds".

The programme "New German Films" is being supported by Gaertner datensysteme.
