Portrait Bjørn Melhus
Bjørn Melhus, born in 1966 in Kirchheim, studied first in Stuttgart (1985-87) before going on to the HBK (Academy of Fine Arts) in Braunschweig.
After receiving a significant number of scholarships and grants and studying all over the world (including the USA, Japan, Italy), Bjørn Melhus became
professor at the College of Arts in Kassel in 2003 in the area of Bildende Kunst (fine arts)/virtual realities. The main content of his works is the debate
on mechanisms of reception within media culture, and a special interest in the US visual mass media. He often shows himself in various roles in front
of the camera in order to address the question of identity. Pictures, sounds, traditional means of narration are cut up and fragmented in order to open
up the way for new interpretations.
