Pôle Image - Films from Haute-Normandie

Since 2002 Braunschweig Film Festival and the northern-French film foundation Pôle Image have organised a filmic exchange between partner regions Lower Saxony and Haute-Normandie. Together with Pôle Image and Nordmedia, the festival chooses films to be shown in March at the Festival du cinéma nordique in Rouen, in turn, offering the artists from Haute-Normandie a forum in November. The Film Festival was guest in Rouen in March, with "Urlaub von Leben", "Wattläufer" and "Der Mann im Schild". Pôle Image will present two films in Braunschweig in the presence of their directors: the new documentary by Ariane Doublet and the short film from Lyèce Boukhitine.

In addition the festival welcomes German and French teachers, taking part in the pedagogical exchange 'Kinema', which deals with films from both countries. Hoffman-von-Fallersleben-Gymnasium is the first Braunschweig school to take part in this project.

The workers at the sugar factory are waiting for a decision: will the factory close or not? At the same time the beet-harvest must be processed. The workers confess their fears, hopes and anger to the camera. The waiting is unbearable, as is their powerlessness against the need for higher efficiency.

During the shooting of a film, the background house displeases the director. The window-shops must be open! A job for the director’s assistant.
