How a woman sleeps her way to the top, only to lose her head after all! The girl Jeanne loves the student Armand, flirts however with the rich ambassador Don Diego. Armand slays his rival and is thrown into prison. Jeanne enters a fictitious marriage, becomes Madame Dubarry and the mistress of King Louis XV. She is loved by the king but despised by the people. Then Armand, the love of her youth, begins revolutionary intrigues...




The Braunschweig International Film Festival in cooperation with the Friedrich-Wilhelm-Murnau Foundation is presenting "Madame Dubarry" for the first time in its newly restored form with music by Carsten-Stephan von Bothmer performed by members of the Braunschweig State Orchestra.
